The region of Paraty and Ilha Grande offers one of the most stunning sailing sceneries in Brazil. With approximately 365 islands, surrounded by calm and crystal-clear waters, protected coves, and lush Atlantic Forest framing every journey, this natural paradise—located between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro—is considered the ideal destination for sailing in the country. It offers safety, diverse routes, and a unique connection with preserved nature.
Paraty was elected a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2019, being the first mixed site (cultural and natural) in Brazil.
It was recognized for its natural beauty of the Atlantic Forest, cultural diversity (indigenous, caiçara, quilombola) and a preserved colonial historical center, showing the harmony between man and nature over time, with archaeological sites and traditional ways of life.
In addition, within our navigation area, is located the only fjord in South America and the only tropical fjord in the world, Saco do Mamanguá.
We chartered four boats from this company and brought 18 sailors from the USA to explore the waters of Paraty and surrounding areas. We rented a catamaran with Wind Charter to explore from Paraty to Ilha Grande, and it was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. The boat was spotless, very well maintained, and everything worked perfectly. The catamaran is extremely comfortable, allowing you to enjoy every moment.
We created our own itinerary and stopped at the beaches we wanted — nothing rigid, everything at our own pace. The Wind Charter team was attentive from the very first contact, providing support without interfering with our experience.

Our first family experience sleeping overnight on a sailboat couldn’t have been better! Everything was perfect — from booking the boat to the final handover at the marina. We arrived late at the marina and found the sailboat all lit up, air conditioning on, and everything spotless and beautifully arranged. We spent the first night at the marina and set sail the next morning for two nights, but the family loved it so much, and with the weather on our side (clear skies and calm seas!) we decided to stay an extra night.
Our skipper, Betinho, was amazing — calm, attentive, and very experienced. He gave us great tips about places to visit, restaurants to try, and even taught us some sailing basics. We highly recommend him! The marina is also very well equipped, and together with the Wind Charter team, they did everything to make our stay and trip absolutely perfect. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
